Electrostatic
Discharge (ESD) is the stealth killer of integrated circuits. You may
never see it, feel it, or even know that it has occurred until it is too
late. If you are in the business of producing integrated circuits, or
populating printed wiring boards with them, then you already know that a
robust ESD protective program is required. |

Audit Considerations

from the ESD Association Facility Certification Program Checklist
Do
you have a documented Plan that addresses the Electrostatic Discharge
Control Requirements?
Does
the Plan include a Training Plan?
Does
the Plan include a Compliance Verification Plan?
Are
Grounding/Bonding systems used to ensure that ESDS items, personnel and
any other conductors are at the same electrical potential?
Is
access to ESD protected areas limited to trained personnel?

Need
help developing an ESD Control plan?
Need
to have your current control plan audited?
Total Logical
Concepts, your full service quality management system partner, is
staffed by Certified ANSI/ESD 20.20 Assessors. ESD 20.20 is the American
National Standard for the development of an electrostatic discharge
control program for the production of electrical and electronic parts,
assemblies and equipment.
Our goal, as
your consulting partner, is to fully implement an ESD program that
conforms to the standard AND integrates seamlessly into your
established internal quality system requirements. We will help you
document the control plan required by ESD 20.20, train your employees,
and perform the compliance verification. We can even assist you in
engaging a Registrar, certified by the ESD Association to bestow
certificates of compliance.

ESD sensitive devices are
expensive. Replacing such devices that have failed internal tests,
before leaving your facility, due to catastrophic in-house ESD damage,
is costly. Most of them cannot be simply tossed out with the trash
because they may contain constituent parts that are harmful to the
environment, thus adding to your disposal costs.
Now think about devices with
latent ESD damage. The devices may pass internal tests, and get to your
customers, the ESD damage incurred during your internal process may not
present until the device is in use. The costs associated with
dissatisfied customers are much harder to measure, but such costs cannot
be good for you bottom line.

"A
properly designed and successfully deployed ESD Control program is
a proven with an ROI of up to 1,000% per year. Another source
reports that for every one in ESD control, ninety-five dollars
comes back as money saved."
